This week we dive into the Black Oxide barbell finish. Black Oxide sits in the middle of the road for protection against rust and corrosion. That being said, this finish will produce a more old school, raw feel that typically is more rough. Personal preference, but know that there is a trade off for having this feel to the knurling. If you currently have a barbell, or are thinking of purchasing a bar with this finish, you MUST not neglect the maintenance required. If you keep putting maintenance off with this finish, you will see the bar start to turn orange. I've see it happen time and time again. If you live in a more humid environment, you should be treating your barbell at least 2 times per month. The amount of chalk and number of people using the bar are both factors to consider as well. Take these points into consideration!
