EP.43 | Using Your Lats for Bigger Lifts!

Thanks for joining us for this week's #bartiptuesday.  This week we are joined by CrossFit Games Athlete and CrossFit Central Houston owner, Teresa Trojanowski.  

Teresa highlights a major component in the Olympic lifts that is extremely vital when it comes to executing these lifts properly.  What is this component you ask?  Lat Engagement.

  • USE YOUR LATS, DON'T JUST PULL WITH YOUR ARMS!

  • KEEP THE BARBELL CLOSE!

  • THROW THIS DRILL INTO YOUR NORMAL WARMUP! 

What is Lat Engagement exactly?  Well to start, the lats are those ham hock of a muscle located below your arm pits.  When these muscles are properly engaged, you will be able to keep the barbell much closer to your body instead of hanging out away from you, which is extremely common.

To help, Teresa demonstrates an easy-to-do drill that will help recruit the proper muscles for the Clean and Snatch.  Incorporating this into your warmup WILL help you produce more efficient lifts, as well as larger numbers in the long term!
